Titan Warrior- Chapter 5
The morning was busy as a large crowd gathered around the street leading towards Trost's gate. The crowd stood, waiting eagerly as the Survey Corps prepared to leave for another expedition. Amelie stood next to Yaku, watching as the Scouts rode past them, reminding herself that she was soon going to be among them. The thought was both terrifying and exhilarating. She then looked up at Yaku, who stared after the Scouts with a furrowed brow and a lost look in her eyes. She reached up and placed a hand on Yaku's arm. Yaku's eyes flash as she comes back to reality and she looks down at Amelie. “Something wrong?” Amelie smiles a little and shakes her head. “No, not at all.” Yaku looks relieved. “Good.” She then looks around at the crowd. “We better find the others. We have a lot of work to do today.” Amelie breathes in deeply. “Right.” Yaku leads the way through the crowd, soon coming up to Eren, Armin, Mikasa and two other cadets by the names of Franz and Hannah. Yaku pauses and

DUNE, Part 2 (full review)
There was a moment early on in Denis Villeneuve's DUNE part two when I actually laughed out loud. It was the moment when Stilgar tells his peers that "Muad Dib is too humble to admit that he's Muad Dib." It was identical to the scene in Monty Python's LIFE OF BRIAN (1979) when a moron from the back says "Only the true Messiah denies his divinity!" Having read the novel in my youth (happily) and sat through the David Lynch version from 1984 repeatedly (unhappily) I'd reached a point where I despaired that Frank Herbert's sci-fi masterpiece would ever be filmed intelligently. Certainly the miniseries from 20+ years ago was as good as we were ever going to get on a cable TV budget...and now here it has finally arrived and ye gods what a spectacle! A feast for both the eyes and ears... Part 2 picks up without missing a beat where the previous film ended. Paul and his mother have embraced the pre-packaged destiny provided by the Bene Gesserit, and so goes the long march for Paul

Titan Warrior- Chapter 4
Amelie wipes her brow, feeling warm from the nearly cloudless afternoon and training combined. She takes a moment to catch her breath before preparing to charge at Yaku again. The cadets were practicing their hand-to-hand combat in pairs. The exercise they were practicing was to learn how to fight and defend themselves unarmed against an armed person. Amelie had been paired up with Yaku, which almost seemed like an unfair pairing as Yaku towered over even the tallest cadet while Amelie was shorter than average. "Come on, give it all you've got!" Yaku encourages Amelie. Amelie grips onto the wooden knife that the "bandits" used to attack. She breathes in deeply and then rushes forward... but in a matter of seconds, she finds herself on her back and looking up at the blue sky. "Oops, sorry!" Yaku says quickly. "are you okay? Maybe I moved a little too fast that time..." Amelie lets Yaku help her back onto her feet. "It's okay. I should have been paying more attention." Yaku

Titan Warrior - Chapter 3
As the morning sun rises a crowd of cadets group together in the courtyard, ready to begin training with Yaku. Among the group stands Eren, Mikasa, Sasha, Armin, Mina, Thomas, Marco, Bertholdt, Reiner, Christa, Ymir, Amelie and several others. They wait patiently for Yaku's arrival, some more eager than others to get started while the majority are only there out of curiosity. Yaku approached the group, momentarily surprised by how many had shown up. “More of you showed up than I expected,” she says. The group turns to face Yaku and stands ready. Amelie smiles as she stands ready with the rest. “We're ready, Yaku.” Yaku smiles at the group and stands tall as she addresses the group. “Alright, so all of you wanna be tough to accomplish your goals I take it.” “We've seen what you can do,” Thomas responds. “You did a thousand laps in five hours!” Mina nods in agreement to Thomas. “If we can get even half as capable of what you can do, we're willing to go the distance.” “Okay, but

Titan Warrior - Chapter 2
The sun beats down as the 104th Cadet Corps trainees stand ready for initiation. Everyone stands still, the majority of them nervous as the instructor, Keith Sadis begins the initiation process. Keith walks down the first row of cadets, taking prey first to a blond-haired boy by the name of Armin Alert. Amelie watches, as she was in the same row as the boy named Armin. She was finally here, and she was finally able to start doing her part to help against the Titans. To say she was nervous was an understatement, and her anxiety was due to more than simply awaiting her turn to be hollered at. She knew, the moment she said her name, everyone present would know who she was. She knew from the moment she entered the Cadet Corps she would be considered an outsider; they would no doubt wonder why the daughter of the Grand High Councilman would wish to join the military. Amelie breathes in deeply, noticing Keith approaching her next. She straightens her posture and stands ready. She

Titan Warrior - Chapter 1
“Come on, I want to show you the new flowers Mommy grew in her garden!” Two young girls run through the garden behind the Meyer estate, eager to view the new collection of flowers that had been planted and blooming. The two hold hands as they run, giggling and not a care in the world of everyday struggles and worries. When they reach the flowers they crouch down, looking at the brightly coloured blossoms in amazement. “Look, Chi-chi!” One girl exclaims as she points at a patch of purple flowers. “Bellflowers!” The other girl, who was much taller than the first, takes a closer look at the Bell Flower, her eyes gleaming. “It's so pretty…” she nearly whispered. The first girl smiles as she kneels in the grass. “Mommy says Bell Flowers are a symbol of every lasting love.” The girl pauses. “I wonder if she planted these flowers because she loves us…” she then grins. “Well, I love her too! And you, Chi-chi! I will always love you!” Chi-Chi stares at the flower for what feels like a

GODZILLA MINUS ONE (Full Review)
For Gen-Xer's like myself (I'm 56) growing up in the 70's meant watching old Godzilla movies often on Sunday mornings. Those movies were so utterly weird, imaginative and completely different from the reruns of Star Trek and Twilight Zone that was a regular part of my TV viewing experience. The first Godzilla movie I ever watched theatrically was GODZILLA 1985...guess what year it came out? But in all seriousness, I loved it. Sure it was a ripe slice of cheese that seems ridiculous compared to Return of the Jedi, but it was also fun and for my money pretty impressive given what had been done up to that time. Now Toho has given us the 38th Godzilla movie since the franchise began in 1954, GODZILLA MINUS ONE [GMO]. One might well assume that at this late stage the franchise has little to offer but a tired formula we've all seen literally dozens of times. What is so very surprising is just how effective GMO is as not merely a piece of kaiju cinema but as a true science fiction
